Acknowledgements
Thanks to the following:
- The little folk of the forest-- all those animals of
various species, and the trees and other plants, and all the rest, for letting
us visit and enjoy their home.
- The Smithsonian people who provided us with an e-mail
connection and a pleasant place to live while we worked. The support of the
Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute has been essential to the entire Mammal
Census Project. And in years when STRI didn't have the budget money, then
Greg Willis funded the work!
- Dean Vaughn Vandegrift of the College of Science and
Math at Montclair State University for his support and encouragement.
- Josh Baron of Stevens Institute for his advice, encouragement,
and enthusiasm: he set up our website and greatly expanded our network of
classrooms online.
- Pat Detamore for her literary contributions and regular
encouragement and for bringing Jackie to the rainforest and to BCI for the
first time, and teaching her how to find her way.
- All the teachers who took time to read to their students,
and talk, and to listen to them. It isn't easy being a good teacher!
- Barry Koffler, who kept us guessing what he could find
in our writings to turn into a joke, and kept us entertained. Barry is a biologist
with a most unusual website about chickens. You can enjoy it yourselves at:
